GOA is small state in the South of India 600 Kms south of Mumbai was ruled by the Portuguse till 1961. The Portuguese Culture is still seen amoung the Goan Catholics. In 1961 the Indian Government took over from the Portuguese and until the late 80s it was made the Union Territory of India. Later it became the 25th State of India.
Panjim is centrally located and is the capital of Goa. Goa has lovely beaches and the famous is Calangute, Baga, Candaolim, Anjuna, Vagator, Morjim, in the North of Goa. Towards the South there are Beaches called Colva, Benaulim, Velsao, Betalbatim, Mobor, Toward the border on the Karnataka side there is a famous beach called Palolem.
The famous churches are the Old Goa and and the temple called Mangushi in the Ponda Area.
Cheap and well organized tours can be taken to see Goa. They are generally divided into North Goa and South Goa tour.
Many families from specially Delhi Do visit Goa and the because Delhi is lacking the Beach atmosphere ( there is no Coastal Area there). In recent years the flight between Delhi to Goa has also increased. There are lots of Russian coming down to Goa on the Chartered Flights and also other Tourist from Near by Bangalore Visit Goa
Liquor is cheap in Goa compared to other state in India. You have to try the local fenny when you are in Goa. It comes in 2 varities. One is Cajew and other is made of Palm. A Beer Bottle is around Rs 50/- (US$1 ) for a 600 ml capacity and easily available in the local shops.
It has only I international Airport and is well connected by daily flights from Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Hydrabad. Jet Airways has a better connection to Goa.
International flights to Goa are Air Arabia, Qatar Airways besides the Government owned Air India and Air India Express.
Goa is connected by Konkan Railway and you can travel through India at a very reasonable fare. Prior reservation is a must as the trains are fully booked.
Regular bus service is available from Mumbai and takes around 14 hours.
Rent a Bike and Rent a Cars are available so it is more easier to move around at your own convenience.
